Welcome to the November South Metro Denver Community Insider. Winter in the Denver area is one of our favorite times of the year. The holidays are just around the corner, the mountain ski resorts are starting to open and there are a number of great community events happening. Here’s are a few we’re excited about.
We CAN Make a Difference Holiday Food Drive
Since the onset of the pandemic, there’s been a much greater need in our community. One way that you can give back is by donating to a local food drive! Stanley Marketplace has partnered up with We Don’t Waste for just that. They are accepting donations of non-perishable food at many Stanley businesses – and bonus – you will get 10% off of your purchase at that business when you donate. You can also make donations at Create Cooking School, June Ruby, and Steele Angel.
A few things to note: they cannot accept baby food or formula, alcohol, anything open/expired, or home-baked items. But, you have plenty of time to donate! The food drive runs from November 9th to the 30th.
Denver Restaurant Week

Assuming you’ve cleaned out your cupboards to donate to the food drive maybe you’d prefer to dine in or carry out a gourmet meal from your favorite local restaurant. The restaurant industry has also been hit hard over the course of the pandemic and what better way to support them than by treating yourself to a multi-course meal? Denver is hosting a special fall edition of Restaurant Week this year and options are extremely affordable at a cost of $25, $35, or $45. And there are hundreds of restaurants to choose from; there’s sure to be something for even the pickiest eaters in your family!
You can check out the menu options and browse the list of restaurants that will be participating on their website. And if you’re an Instagram user make sure you hashtag your foodie pictures #DenverRestaurantWeek to be featured on the website!
The Polar Express Train Ride at The Colorado Railroad Museum

Okay, enough about food! Fall is in full swing and the holidays will be here before we know it. The South Mentro Denver area is a truly great place to spend the winter holidays and November brings the start of some great holiday events.
The Polar Express is a classic children’s story (and great movie!) that is a tradition in many families this time of year. And the Colorado Railroad Museum offers an incredible, immersive experience you won’t want to miss. Likely one the kids will never forget!
It starts with cookies and cocoa while you watch a show, followed by a ride to “The North Pole” aboard vintage rail cars, pulled by a genuine, coal-fired steam locomotive. Once passengers arrive, they’ll watch as the elves sing and dance, and Santa gives out The First Gift of Christmas. You can check out their ticket options and get all the detail through their website.
Blossom of Light at the Botanical Gardens
If you’re looking for a holiday event that is a little more lowkey you could take in the Blossom of Lights at the Botanical Gardens. For over thirty years this has been a staple at the Gardens and has become popular for hosting engagements, holiday parties, and photoshoots. The York Street location is transformed into a winter wonderland, with incredible light displays that will quickly become a tradition for many families! You can also get treats and hot drinks by visiting the Hive Garden Bistro on-site. The cost is $16-19 for Graden members and $18-21 for non-members. Children 2 and under don’t require a ticket. Tickets MUST be purchased online and go on sale on November 8th. You can get them here!
